Marin County Kid Named New Gerber Baby

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Magnolia Earl, a Marin County kid who turned one year old on Saturday, was named the newest Gerber "spokesbaby" Friday after a nationwide photo search by the baby foods company.

Magnolia, whose family lives in Ross, was chosen as the 2020 Spokesbaby from more than 327,000 entries submitted online.

The first-ever Gerber baby who was adopted, Magnolia has two older sisters — Whitney, 12, and Charlotte, 8 — who are also adopted, the company said in a news release.

Magnolia "captured the hearts of the judging panel with her joyful expression, playful smile and warm, engaging gaze," the company said in a news release.

"Her personality is beyond happy and joyful," Courtney Earl, Magnolia's mother, said in a news release. Magnolia entered the Earl family's life on May 9, 2019, when an adoption agency called them to say an expectant mother was in labor and wanted to speak with them.

"We pulled off the highway, got a chance to connect with her amazing birth parents, and a few hours later, this sweet baby girl was born," Courtney said. "Adoption is incredibly special to our family's story."

Gerber's contest, launched in 2010, was inspired by the company's iconic logo, showing a sketch of a baby girl, that appears on all its products. Countless families over the years who saw a resemblance between the Gerber Baby and their own have sent the company photos of their kids, the company said.

The Earl family were given a $25,000 cash prize, $1,000 in Gerber children's clothing, $1,000 from Walmart and cell phones with a year of unlimited service from Verizon, according to Gerber.
